Dragonfruit Publishing is primarily focused on Joseph’s original work. Joseph enjoys creating, even more so when he gets to share it with an audience who will not only appreciate his work but also give feedback.
How Pastel Dragon Came to Be
Pastel Dragon is a webcomic series that spawned from a comic strip that was required to be drawn, inked and digitized through Adobe Illustrator. This was for the program’s assignment in the Multimedia course. The overall idea for the comics came from an ancient YouTube video coming from Joseph’s childhood, where someone showcases an adventure made in the game Spore, specifically it’s Spore Galactic Adventures expansion pack. Said adventure had the player character go on an epic quest to retrieve an elderly woman’s laundry. The idea of something so epic for such a silly outcome always humored Joseph, so he made a comic similar in style to Garfield center around short stories that throw the viewer for a loop right at the very end.
How Pastel Dragon Evolved
The comic, made in early 2024, was meant to be a one-time thing and not much else, but a web design course Joseph took later that year asked students to make a website in Adobe Dreamweaver, one that was a webcomic site. Joseph, knowing that he had made a comic earlier that year, saw the perfect opportunity to make something out of nothing. He spent his time building his website and expanding upon the Pastel Dragon universe. Below is a screenshot of the website, specifically it’s home page.
The website helped with Joseph getting a grasp on many things. First, Joseph always dreamed of building websites for things he found interest in. however, he found the task of coding daunting, especially after taking a Java course and suffering more than a few headaches. However, to his delight and surprise, HTML and CSS were far more understandable in their approach. This, combined with Dreamweaver’s easy-to-use and convenient interface, made building Joseph’s website a breeze. The website itself helped Joseph understand and build upon the aesthetics and universe of the comic.
Pastel dragon isn’t the only work published by Joseph. If you want to see his other works, see the Other Works page.
